Sometimes it’s tempting to mistake Forced conversation for debate Though it gets you up in arms Hold your breath & bite your tongue Before the air escapes your lungs Choose your words wisely Pipe down & exercise restraint Nobody asked you anyway Though it brings you to your knees Foaming at the mouth, dying to critique It’s of no concern of yours to speak If it’s uninvited You’re in the wrong Though it gets you up in arms Hold your breath & bite your tongue Before the air escapes your lungs Choose your words wisely

I’ve come to light, but it was fleeting A cycle short-sighted & misleading Unless their heart’s inclined to bleeding Bury your troubles with your feelings What a lovely day for a pointless escape You can feel it in your bones, the lack of pursuit You failed to commandeer a sympathetic ear And now you’re being forced to postpone the long overdue It’s degrading The persuading You’ve outgrown Masquerading Serenading me I’ve come to light, but it was fleeting A cycle short-sighted & misleading Unless their heart’s inclined to bleeding Bury your troubles with your feelings Don’t feel excluded, unwillingly deluded You’re guaranteed to be abused whatever you do Or don’t! Is your untimely demise not sensationalized Sufficiently to garner attention upon review? I sense you’re waiting Anticipating My next move There’s no air out there & you’re choking And you’re breaking It’s amazing Hey I’ve come to light, but it was fleeting A cycle short-sighted & misleading Unless their heart’s inclined to bleeding Bury your troubles with your feelings

The Invitee 03:32
You saved the day I was stranded here I don’t know what else to say You have my praise And my welcome won’t be outstayed Because I don’t wanna offend no one It’d be more than I could take I could take And promise if this comes out all wrong You’ll put me in my place In my place I made my bed It’s the least that I could do Your roof over my head Eggshells I tread Not to be misconstrued I mean no disrespect Because I don’t wanna offend no one It’d be more than I could take I could take And promise if this comes out all wrong You’ll put me in my place In my place I’m on your side Because I don’t wanna offend no one It’d be more than I could take I could take And promise if this comes out all wrong You’ll put me in my place In my place I’m on your side

You’ve said too much So shut up Get over yourself Braindead hot stuff Drain the cup Proceed to lash out And I will will cut you down Go off at the mouth And curse you indignantly Wildly cast you out I’ll bark & I’ll growl Withholding all sympathy Refuse to go I’ll cut your throat Assert supremacy When I reload I’ll explode At least, allegedly Here in my own house You scream & you shout Some plea for civility Friends will interrupt Enough is enough Prune your masculinity

I don’t like her that much Do you know what I’m saying? It’s so obvious Hard to get game she’s playing Push & shove are allowed While her defense is down But are you heavy enough To throw your weight around? Is that the hardest part? Painting her abstract art? Was she asking for it? Hesitant to commit? Are you a big dog now? Are you locked in the pound? Well I hope you get put down There’s no room to fuck in a grave When it’s over & done And your ego’s inflated Fill your veins full of junk Sobriety’s overrated Hang yourself by the neck Or maybe just skip town But are you heavy enough To throw your weight around? Is that the hardest part? Painting her abstract art? Was she asking for it? Hesitant to commit? Are you a big dog now? Are you locked in the pound? Well I hope you get put down We’ll be cheering hip, hip hooray Oh, Is that the hardest part? Painting her abstract art? Was she asking for it? Hesitant to commit? Oh, are you a big dog now? Are you locked in the pound? Well I hope you get put down We’ll be cheering hip, hip hooray I don’t like her that much Do you know what I’m saying? We were educated To avoid acts unrefined But life has demonstrated That it’s not always cut & dry We will commit larceny Take the fall & stand accused Relieve you of your property If it burdens you You demanded comfort While impaired & unimproved And now we’re done for Open to abuse We’ve committed burglary Every door is now alarmed Will we elude the search party Or buy the farm? Perhaps we’ll steal away with ease Snatch victory from the claws of defeat But more than likely, lest fate intervenes We’ll go down fighting & die as thick as thieves

I’ve practiced alchemy Gained wealth from tragedy Without regret I’ve played roulette with sorcery Employed telepathy To confirm my misgivings And I cannot deny Or turn a blind eye to what it achieved To refute or renounce Could only amount to perjury You’re no better to claim virtue Now that the magic’s gone, you’re through I’m simply beside myself You’re no better to claim virtue Now that the magic’s gone, you’re through I’m simply beside myself

Here & Now 02:28
Is it no use trying? Are you sure? ‘Cause your lack of patience comes off somewhat immature You could try to fight it But you won’t Seems your claims of bias may be a bit overwrought Who you are & where you want to go are up to no one else Here & now aren’t beyond your control, but you won’t help yourself Gotta keep ‘em guessing Like ya do While you cry transgression like some duplicitous fool It’s a null reaction Apropos For the sake of balance, maybe you should let it go Oh, who you are & where you want to go are up to no one else That’s a fact, despite your hesitance, you must learn to respect Here & now aren’t beyond your control, but you won’t help yourself Oh, here & now

The Cycle 03:17
A child can provide A source of comfort & pride Subsequent generations To carry your presence Then all the while Behave so juvenile They’ll be trying your patience Beyond adolescence But don’t wreck What you’re obliged to protect And they will grow By word or the fist They’ll drown in the abyss Of unachieved maturation Emotionally shorted Robbed of the chance To contribute to advance Threat to their population Better off aborted Renewed The cycle of abuse Yeah, thanks For nothing Engaged An abrupt coming of age No thanks To you

Hunted 04:17
Off with the hounds And out of hiding While we watch the prey is quickly hunted down Thin on the ground With faith providing While we watch the prey is quickly hunted down Shots fired in my direction & I instantly Came to glory But that’s your story If your life depends on bloodshed, as traditionally Take it slowly And follow closely Don’t wanna go out That’s where you’ll find me One shot & I’ll be quickly hunted down Gamey & stale Unappetizing One shot & I’ll be quickly hunted down The target in your sights deprived its dignity That’s unholy And I’m no trophy If you’ve no respect for life, expect none returned from me As I’m folding As I’m coldly laid to rest I’m still crying out for reprieve No screams, just whimpering And you’ve won the game you’ve waged against the mess I wound up in I’ll be tugged in all directions Have my hide hung out to dry But prior to my dissection, I am wounded but alive And it’s not over It’s not over It’s not over until I say it is It’s not over It’s not over It’s not over, not just yet

From time to time we may tend to wander Where there is no common law Although our paths often near each other Pray that they remain apart You pursue From out of the blue I extend no invite I’m sure you Could use something to latch onto Now & then So could I Harmless enough You were dumb You were happy, but But I’d rather not string you along You stutter & stammer for something that interests me Though to my destination, I’ve withdrawn You pursue Without my consent None express nor implied I’m sure you Could use something to latch onto As your wounds multiply Unfit to survive Even if you weren’t artless anymore And, in your trust, I could confide Even if you managed, somehow, to prove your worth I wouldn’t spare you your life You pursue From out of the blue I extend no invite I’m sure you could use something to latch onto As your wounds multiply Unfit to survive This is goodbye We’ll carry on & on On & on

about

The record that ended Fabulous Decline - 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘛𝘰 𝘓𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 - after nearly eight and a half long years, is finally going to get to see the light of day.

In August of 2015, the boys and I traveled to Chicago to record with two of my idols - Allen Epley and Eric Abert of the band The Life and Times - at their studio, Electronical. This time, however, we left the acoustic guitars at home.

𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘛𝘰 𝘓𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 was the result of a disagreement within the band, the rest of whom were justifiably tired of solely playing my old tunes and wanted to write something fresh that we could call our own. As such, 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘛𝘰 𝘓𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 was a very different Fabulous Decline album. It was a hard-driving, white-knuckled kick to the gut, inspired by our live sound, which had become increasingly heavy by the end of 2014.

The end product was a beautiful though slightly flawed collection of work that we could never quite agree to release; and before we could manage to get it published, the members of Fabulous Decline tragically went our separate ways.

Earlier this year, I acquired the master recordings from those sessions from Mr. Abert, and Fabulous Decline drummer Alan Mabee and I have been hard at work trying to perfect what I consider to be our masterpiece. It’s gritty. It’s preachy. It’s the finest piece of music that I’ve ever had the pleasure of creating, and I hope you enjoy it.
